Adidas Springblade Ignite

Updates to Adidas Springblade Ignite

  • Adidas adds another eye-catching model to the Springblade line in the form of the Ignite. In the second model of this series, the 3-Stripes company introduces a few tweaks that should make this shoe one of the best in Adidas’s lineup. Instead of the usual 16 polymer blades, company engineers used only 9 of them. Working in tandem with the blades for better cushioning is the AdiPrene+ midsole.
  • Besides making the run more cushioned and “natural” with the AdiPrene+, the sole of the shoe gets added bulk, which should allay concerns of the other Springblade models that are deemed too thin above the blades. A long-lasting midsole with more than enough responsive cushioning should delight most runners.
  • A new Techfit upper greets runners in the Adidas Ignite. It offers enhanced adaptability with synthetic overlays for increased midfoot hold. For added measure, the breathable upper mesh is considered by many as more durable than the original version of the Springblade mesh.

The fit of the Springblade Ignite is very much like many of Adidas’ trainers. It has sufficient space in the heel, a locked in midfoot, and a wide toe box. With an almost anatomic-based last, most runners will find the fit really comfortable. D for the men’s and B for the women’s are the available widths. The shoe length is standard with options from 7 to 15 for the men’s and 5 to 12 for the women’s.

Adidas Springblade Ignite Outsole

The outsole makes the shoe really unique courtesy of the 9 individually-tuned polymer blades. Although a mechanical outsole that mainly functions as a cushioning mechanism is nothing new, these blades are unlike anything before. These blades are designed to provide a slanted motion going forward instead of upward for a more propulsive run. Adidas engineers designed the blades with elastic recoil for an added push that is basically the same amount of force spent by runners upon landing. Providing traction to the blades is the AdiWear rubber, which is also relied upon for its exceptional durability. This is also the outsole technology that is used in the popular Adidas Duramo 9.

Adidas goes traditional in the forefoot of the Ignite. Instead of having the blades for cushioning in this part, runners will find the molded EVA Adiprene+ midsole foam, which is quite responsive and durable despite being very light.

A newly-designed, seamless TechFit upper featuring a very breathable and durable mesh and welded synthetic overlays hold this section together. It is an upper that moves well with the foot, which is also a bit rigid in the midfoot and heel for better support. An inner sleeve helps with the wraparound feel and comfort. Adidas uses a responsive EVA sockliner for even more cushioning. The interior comfort and a healthy environment are delivered by a moisture-wicking lining. Runners should not fear heel slippage as there is a sturdy heel counter that holds the rear portion really well.
