Updates to Asics Gel FujiAttack 5
- Asics stuck with the proven features of the FujiAttack and kept the changes to a minimum in the 5th edition of this trail running shoe. Immediately, fans of the series will notice that the new model has lesser overlays than the previous version. It helps keep the weight down without taking away the needed support and structure.
- The removal of some of the overlays also results in a slightly more flexible heel support. There is only one overlay that secures the heel in this area, as opposed to the heavily-reinforced version of the prior edition.
- The outsole gets a slight change as well. While it still uses the Trail Specific Outsole, the opposite-facing lugs are clearly bigger. It can only mean an improved grip on difficult and uneven trail surfaces.
- For protection against sharp objects, Asics offers a slightly bulkier Rock Protection Plate in the forefoot. It is a sturdy layer that is a bit flexible and still allows enough ground feedback.
Asics Gel FujiAttack 5 Size and fit
Standard fit and sizing, like those used in the past model, are featured in the FujiAttack 5. Runners will really like the adequate space in the heel, the snug midfoot, and the generous forefoot. As with this type of fit, this can generally accommodate runners with slightly wider or inflexible feet. Available widths are D and B while sizes are from 6 to 14 for the men’s and 5 to 11 for the women’s.
Asics Gel FujiAttack 5 Outsole
Trail Specific Outsole using multi-directional lugs in the forefoot and the heel provide serious grip, especially when going downhill. Presently, the lugs are bigger now than the past model and should work very well in a moderately difficult or technical trail. Same as that in the popular Asics running shoe, the Gel Cumulus 20, the tough AHAR rubber in the FujiAttack 5's heel offers excellent protection in this section.
Asics Gel FujiAttack 5 Midsole
There are a couple of midsole technologies in the Gel FujiAttack 5. First and most famous is the Gel Cushioning System in the heel that is designed to absorb and attenuate shock. Asics keeps the run responsive in the Solyte foam. This is an extremely light and durable foam that holds up very well to the poundings of daily training. A TPU shank called the Trusstic System gives the shoe torsional stability without adding weight. The protection against the harsh elements on the trail gets a boost with the Rock Protection Plate in the forefoot.

The upper features open mesh for excellent breathability. Asics removed some of the overlays and strategically placed the new ones for improved fit and support. A traditional lace-up closure helps runners get a personalized fit.
