Updates to Asics Gel Hyper Tri 2

  • The Hyper Tri 2 offers a few tweaks in different areas that are sure to enhance the shoe’s overall performance. Asics completely revamped the outsole rubber pattern. There is now a substantial Guidance Line or a cut from the heel to the forefoot for better flexibility and enhanced transition. It also sports the more durable AHAR+ rubber in high-impact areas for durability.
  • The upper gets a bit of a makeover as well. There are substantially lesser overlays for a more adaptive upper. The use of moderate overlays can be seen all the way to the heel as it replaces the stiffer version used in the previous model. While the new setup provides decent support, the heel area is more comfortable and adaptable to the runner’s movement.
  • A molded and slightly padded tongue is the last update. It takes next to skin experience, especially during triathlons, better than ever.

Asics Gel Hyper Tri 2 Size and fit

The fit and sizing are standard just like the original Hyper Tri. There is a medium fit of the heel to the forefoot. This will be a natural comfort zone for runners with average foot measurements. Available widths are D and B while sizes are from 6 to 15 for the men’s and 5 to 11 for the women’s.


Asics Gel Hyper Tri 2 Outsole

Same as with the popular Asics Cumulus 20, this shoe's outsole features several of Asics’ best technologies. A very durable carbon rubber called AHAR+ is placed in the heel and other areas prone to wear and tear. Going forward, Asics placed blown rubber that it calls DuraSponge Rubber for stickiness in different areas and adds a little bit of cushioning. The Guidance Line or cut in the outsole spanning almost the entire length of the outsole gives the shoe better flexibility and transition.


The very popular silicone material, which can also be found in the shoe's updated version, the Hyper Tri 3 and also the one which Asics refers to as the Gel cushioning system is fitted in the heel part of the shoe for shock attenuation. A vented midsole known as Magic Sole provides added breathability without putting on more weight.


A new seamless upper largely made up of mesh and minimal overlays make the shoe very breathable with adequate support. The seamless structure reduces risks of irritation as it is recommended for sockless running. For more breathability, a perforated sockliner is located in the interior. The soft fabric enhances comfort. Lastly, elastic laces enable quick and effortless cinching.
