Updates to Asics Gel Oberon 10
- Asics introduces the 10th version of the Gel Oberon by addressing past issues regarding breathability through a new air mesh upper that has already satisfied most runners. The slightly wider mesh covering almost the entire shoe makes every run cool and sweat-free.
- The midsole of the Oberon 10 undergoes a slight revamp as well. Saucony has added a layer of SpEVA for enhanced shock-absorbing features and cushioning resiliency. The SpEVA material improves the performance of the midsole cushioning as it takes the pounding of everyday training better than compression-molded EVA. It also works in tandem with Asics’ patented Gel Cushioning system in the heel and forefoot for even better shock attenuation.
Asics Gel Oberon 10 Size and fit
The trademark fit of the Gel Oberon line is very evident in the 10th installment. It has retained the slightly generous fit of the heel and forefoot of past versions without being sloppy on the road. A marginally wider toe box to accommodate mid-run swelling and a very nice midfoot wrap round up the fantastic fit of this shoe. The available widths are D for the men’s and B for the women’s. Sizing is standard as well. The men’s sizes are from 5.5 to 14 while the women’s are from 3.5 to 10.
Asics Gel Oberon 10 Outsole
Same as with the popular Asics Patriot 10, the Gel Oberon 10's outsole uses another Asics mainstay in the AHAR+ rubber. Asics uses a special rubber compound in the outsole for superb durability, especially in high-impact areas, and traction. Flex grooves below the forefoot and a substantial cut in the outsole below the heel add flexibility to this supremely cushioned shoe.
Asics Gel Oberon 10 Midsole
Taking precedence over every other technology in the Asics Oberon 10 is the Rearfoot and Forefoot Gel Cushioning Systems. For a no-fuss, sturdy, and reliable trainer this silicon-based material is indispensable for the rigors of training sessions. The gel compresses upon impact to absorb and attenuate shock and releases the impact when it goes back to its original form. There is a dynamic energy return every time the gel reverts to its normal state, which should help propel the runner forward.
From the standard compression-molded EVA, Asics puts its own spin on the midsole by using another exclusive technology in the SpEVA. As mentioned, the material is made of more resilient compound that adds life to the cushioning and enhances shock attenuation.

The new air mesh upper does not look different from the old one at first glance. A closer inspection, however, would show that it does have slightly bigger holes. The result is obviously a shoe with better breathability without compromising its overall fit and comfort.
